Nuritas Founder and Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Nora Khaldi, Meets Royal Newlyweds in Dublin

Nuritas founder and Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Nora Khaldi, was very proud to be invited to meet the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle during their first international visit, taking place in Dublin.

Dr. Nora Khaldi was joined among others by Enterprise Ireland CEO, Julie Sinnamon, Silicon Republic CEO, Ann O’Dea, President of Dublin City University, Prof. Brian MacCraith for a Diversity Roundtable discussion on how to empower women in technology.

“It was an honor to share a Roundtable with these incredible equality influencers to discuss how we can encourage young women to choose a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)” said Dr. Nora Khaldi “This is a topic especially close to my heart”.

The roundtable agreed that parents and teachers need to be educated about STEM and what incredible career opportunities it can offer.  There also needs to be a championing of computational thinking in schools, “Often the expense of buying computers for every student is given as an excuse by the government” remarked Dr. Khaldi, “however, you don’t need a computer to learn computational thinking. These skills can be achieved by engaging good mathematical teachers”. A final point discussed, was the need to endorse more successful women in STEM as role models for younger generations. Dr. Khaldi noted she was “truly impressed with the Royal newlyweds input on the discussion and how personable they both were”.

Following the discussion, Dr. Khaldi had the opportunity to present the Duke and Duchess of Sussex with a gift created by the Nuritas team, a print of their ‘Peptified’ names, which is a fun way to represent a name as a peptide molecule. Dr. Khaldi said “they both seemed to like it and said it was the most original gift they have received”
